Make Your Own Luck

"Trust me, I know what I'm doing. . . or at least, Felix does."

—Harry Potter after drinking Felix Felicis

March is all about Luck! Luck of the Irish, Leprechauns, and Four Leaf Clovers. How much control do you have over your own luck? When someone is lucky we consider it chance or coincidence. I like to think of it as synchronicity, or being in the right place at the right time to have things work out in your favor. When this happens, we can look back at the string of actions and find they were often based on one or two ideas or whims which led us to these synchronous "lucky" moments. Your intuitive voice is connected to this divine synchronicity. Because it is all about inner guidance and synchronicity, your luck increases as you build a relationship with your intuitive voice.

JK Rowling, in her Harry Potter series, creates a potion for luck called Felix Felicis or "Liquid Luck." This potion guarantees that the user will fulfill his wish. The students at Hogwarts School have such faith in the voice of this potion that, while under its influence, they follow its voice in their heads with confidence. At first we believe it is a magic potion, when Harry experiences success while under the potion’s influence. However, when Harry’s friend, Ron Weasley, is tricked into thinking he has ingested the Felix Felicis but really hasn’t just before a big Quidditch game, we discover that he is just as successful in his luck (he plays the best ever) without the potion. We realize that the key to our magical luck and success is inside us all along – it’s just a matter of confidence in your own inner guidance system.

What if there were a way to believe you can take your own Lucky Potion? What if you had a way to gain instant confidence for your own ideas and whims that can lead you to be in the right place at the right time? You can do this by developing a strong relationship with your intuitive voice, similar to swallowing (or think you swallowed) a Lucky potion. You begin to trust this voice much more than the voice of the critic or doubter. Your first impulse after asking a question is the direction you go. You find yourself in the right place at the right time and the events in your life work out effortlessly.

Below are some practical ideas to raise the volume on this intuitive voice, gain the confidence to follow it and increase your luck.

To get started developing this new relationship, be sure to leave yourself some unplanned time in your schedule each day to allow unexpected events to occur and for your whims to guide you.

1. A potion is merely a spell in liquid form. Practice saying the following “spell” as you drink your morning coffee or tea.

“All the answers I receive today are divinely guided. I am always in the right place at the right time. All I am seeking is now seeking me.”

2. Practice making simple predictions. For example, guess who is calling when the phone rings or what a friend is going to say in an email you have yet to open. Notice how often you are right. Also, notice when you think of the person before the phone rings or they contact you.

3. Practice checking in with people in your life. Close your eyes and imagine what they are doing or feeling. What environment are they in? You can watch them as if on your own movie screen. Write down the time and your observations and check in with them later for fun.

4. Keep track of all the synchronous events already going on in your life. Perhaps you were talking about someone just before you ran into them at the grocery store. Decide to make a list each night so you are gathering information during the day to add to this list.

You can take this idea further and wish for these synchronous events when you plan your day in the morning. For example, “I’d love to have the boss leave early so the end of the day is easier.” When these events happen, you begin to see the effect your wishes have on your intuition. You will realize that your intuitive voice is always answering your underlying questions or wishes all the time. It’s magic, so you don’t have to know how it works, just that it works!!

5. Practice asking your intuitive self a question and listening for the answer. When you have something to figure out, ask your intuition. Listen for the immediate response. For example, ask “Who can help me with this situation?” Allow yourself to catch the first idea that comes to mind. This can be a thought, a word or name, or a vision when you close your eyes. Follow with confident abandon. Allow yourself to contact this person right away even if you don’t think they are the right person – they will often know someone who can help you. Or be prepared to go to that coffee shop. Remember it’s all about synchronicity.

6. Stop Complaining – move out of judgment and into a neutral state with no opinions about anything. By doing this, you will align with your higher self and know just what to do. We complain because it’s something we are resisting and making into a problem. Pull your attention off the problem (“It’s all divine good”) and it magically dissolves.

Overall, the more you practice and have fun with these ideas, you learn how your intuitive voice works for you --as an image, idea, or specific words. When you create a relationship with your intuitive voice, you build up the confidence to follow it with giddy confidence as if ingesting your own lucky potion.
